According to brestcancer.org, there are over 3 million women in the United States alone living with breast cancer. Other studies show that up to 75% of women will be treated with Taxotere. Although, Taxotere has been found to perform better than other forms of medications in the treatment of breast cancer it has also been found to cause severe side effects which include alopecia or permanent hair loss. In most women Taxotere permanent hair loss is disfiguring which makes them feel uncomfortable. In fact, some women have gone ahead to sue doctors who did not disclose losing hair as a side effect.

Taxotere and cancer growth

Other than treatment of breast cancer, Taxotere is also used in the treatment of prostate cancer, non-small cell lung cancer as well as head and neck cancer. Normally, cancer is viewed as a collection of diseases that cause body cells to divide and spread rapidly to the surrounding body tissues. Cancer body cells are known to divide so rapidly such that they can reach up to trillions of cells. In normal condition, when the body develops new cells, the old ones die so that the new cells can take their place. However, in cancerous condition when the body develops new cells, the old ones remain alive causing the body to have new and unnecessary cells. As the new cells divide, they start forming tumours.

How Taxotere works

Just like the other popular cancer treatments, Taxotere works by preventing cells from multiplying or dividing. Normal cells stop dividing when near similar cells while cancer cells get damaged thus lose the ability to multiply or divide. Taxotere also attacks cancer cells RNA or DNA to prevent any developed tumour from duplicating and spreading

Taxotere Permanent hair loss

It is common to see individuals undergoing chemotherapy treatment lose their hair. However, this condition usually reverts within six months up to a year whereby the patients’ hair grows again. Hair loss after chemotherapy treatment is classified as one of the most distressing side effects especially among women. According to research loss of hair has a direct impact on those undergoing this form of treatment as it makes someone lose self-confidence and self-esteem. It is good to note that all individuals experience permanent hair loss thus you should consult with your doctor first to determine how severe the side effect will be. Before getting the treatment, you should consider cutting your hair short and also get a decent wig thus no one will notice any changes even if you lose your hair.

This form of medication may contain inactive ingredients which can lead to unwanted complications. You should also inform your doctor about your medical history before you start the treatment. Some of the information that you should let the doctor know include whether you have a blood pressure problem, heart complication, liver problem or immune system problem among other factors that can affect your treatment.

It is also good to note that the drug makes you feel dizzy and also contains alcohol which can make you feel drunk after treatment. Caution is essential especially if you have a liver problem or any other problem that requires precaution when using products containing alcohol. After treatment, it is essential you relax in a safe environment and avoid driving or operating any machinery.
